Physical Therapists (PT’s) provide for many types and ages of patients. They work with burn victims to prevent abnormal scarring or to increase movement loss for stroke victims so they can regain movement and return to independent living. They also work with cancer patients to help relieve discomfort, in addition to cardiac patients to improve their quality of life through conditioning. Perhaps as important, your PT may provide information regarding how to make desired lifestyle changes after impairment. It has been well documented that patients that are recovering from an injury will often re-evaluate their lives and choose to implement positive lifestyle changes. The Physical Therapist serves in a comprehensive and dynamic healthcare role, helping to maintain the quality of life for millions of Americans.

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps restore and maintain the essential activities of daily living that people want and need. OT practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by assisting them in the promotion of health, and by preventing, or living better with, an injury, illness, or disability. They practice with a holistic approach, in which their focus is to adapt the environment and/or task to fit the patient, where the patient is an integral part of the therapy team.  (Paraphrased from The American Occupational Therapy Association.)
